MRI with MR Fistulogram for Perianal Fistula: A Successful Combination

چکیده
Perianal fistula commonly occurs in an otherwise healthy patient, typically, middle-aged men. Most experts believe that it occurs as result of anal gland obstruction, secondary abscess formation and subsequent external decompression through one of several fairly predictable routes. The internal origin of the fistula usually begins from the middle of the anal canal at the dentate line. Fistulae may be classified [1] surgically as: 1. Intersphincteric (70%) 2. Transsphincteric (25%) 3. Suprasphincteric (5%) 4. Extrasphincteric or Supralevator (< 1%)

A Single Center Study of 80 Cases of Fistula-in-ano
Background: Anal fistulae, especially the complex and the high ones, are a challenge to treat even for an experienced surgeon. Hence, there is a need to preoperatively evaluate anal fistula to reduce the rate of recurrence. Objective: This study was embarked on to evaluate the natural course of anal fistula and its management. Goodsall’s rule, which predicts the course of fistulous tracts, was ...
متن کاملOur Experience with MR Imaging of Perianal Fistulas
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) depicts infectious foci in the perianal region better than any other imaging modality. MRI allows definition of the fistula, associated abscess formation and its secondary extensions. Accurate information is necessary for surgical treatment and to obtain a decrease in the incidence of recurrence and complications. Radiologists should be familiar with anatomical ...
متن کاملHuman Amniotic Membrane Effect on Perianal Fistula Healing in Rabbits: An Experimental Study
Background: Perianal fistula is a complicated disorder and most difficult to manage. New treatment methods would help surgeons to achieve a better outcome in patients with perianal fistula. Human amniotic membrane (HAM) has positive effects on wound healing in several conditions. The present study aimed to further determine the effect of HAM on wound healing of perianal fistula in rabbits.Metho...
متن کاملImaging of Anal Fistulas: Comparison of Computed Tomographic Fistulography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The primary importance of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in evaluating anal fistulas lies in its ability to demonstrate hidden areas of sepsis and secondary extensions in patients with fistula in ano. MR imaging is relatively expensive, so there are many healthcare systems worldwide where access to MR imaging remains restricted. Until recently, computed tomography (CT) has played a limited rol...

A fistula is defined as a pathological connection between the intestine and an inner (bladder or other intestine) or outer (vagina or skin) epithelial surface. Fistulas are discovered in up to 25% of all Crohn’s disease patients during long term follow-up examinations. Most are perianal fistulas, and these may be classified as simple or complex. The initial investigation of perianal fistulas in...
